Here’s my thing about this Katy Perry geisha business: It’s a gimmick (nearly) every female pop star has turned out. When not dressing up as geishas, then they’re dressing up as Marie Antoinette or Marilyn, Dietrich or Cleopatra. It’s iconography. Not racism. You want to talk about ‘problematic’ race issues in the US? Then look at people like George Zimmerman, your neighbors, etc.
Targeting Katy Perry is way off if you’re trying to fight against racism. Or to help the geisha community.
